In this era who is not familiar with facebook.
I am pretty sure that you are aware about the news that Facebook is accused of collecting 50 million user's private data and sharing that data with other companies and many people also tell that facebook sold the data for hefty amount.
So I am here to explain about this case, I did hell lot of research on this, so lets get started......
So accusation is that "Facebook sold the data of its users to other companies",
I am sure that there will be a question in your mind that, is this all happening is true??
So the answer is big NO!
No facebook never sold its users data, this similar case happend back in 2014.
Earlier in 2014 facebook wanted their users to develope more applications on their platform.
But wait! Is facebook a Operating System?
No! Facebook is not a O.S but there are ample amount of chances where developers can create apps. But those apps can only be used on facebook platform only.
Now, you will be wondering, how is this possible, till now I did not come across any of these apps??
Yes, you come across these apps. I will give you an example, We have come across lots of quizzes in facebook like-
- Who will be your partner.
- Where will you be after 10 years from now.
- Who loves you secretly , and many more..
These apps takes all the data from our fb account or profile, and do a little amount of calculations and publish the answers.
These all answers or results of these quizzes are always false. It shows randomly any result.
Plz dont fall in this trap they extract our data and that data can be used for any wrong purpose.
These apps are only meant for fun.
This same case happened back in 2014, some application collected some users private data and sold it to another company for further use.
Our private data how can be useful for them? Thus topic will be discussed in seperate blog.
So facebook was aware of this case but did not take any action against the app.
Because back in 2014 facebook was still in growing state. So if we see it by buisness point of view fb did not wanted to leave any bad impression their users mind.
So they kept quiet.
This was considered to be facebook's biggest mistake.
We all know that 4 days or 1 week back news came that a company named "Cambridge Analytica", collected the data of over 50 million+ fb users. And shared to other company.
In other words facebook data was leaked.
Basically, this company " Cambridge Analytica" is a data mining company.
They used the data without permission of facebook.
For their profit.
It is known that Cambridge Analytica has a good link with "Donald Trump".
So these all data must be used for elections also.
Now, you may be thinking that how our personal data can be used for elections?
The answer is simple-
They do a case study on each and every person's data and find out what he/she likes, who are there relatives and friends.
Which post does he/she likes and how he/she react to it.
And what are their reactions on social issues. They do some random polls to get in touch with them deeply.
These all things are beneficiary for a political party to know their people and what they need.
When these all name came forward a hashtag called " #deletefacebook" was trending on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Elon musk, founder of Tesla and Spacex.
This man tweeted something and that went viral.
You can see the tweet below-
He tweeted that he did'nt know "about facebook".
And after his tweet many people tweeted back that his own company's facebook page is trending on facebook.
So the people challenged him to delete company's fb page.
So as expected he tweeted back and said that he was not aware of it.
And within few hours he made that page to delete from fb.
And passed some harsh comment on fb
That he personally dont like fb, it is waste of time etc etc.
So in all this drama Mark zuckerberg was suffering.
And he literally bought all the news papers front page and printed apoligies saying that it was his mistake.
He cant secured users data and promised that will not happen further.
Eventually in all these drama Facebook's shares went down upto 14% i.e. approximately fb suffered a huge loss of millions of dollar.
No invester is intrested in investing on fb.
So this was the whole case of facebook privacy breach.
